National Tree Week 24th November to 2nd December

National Tree Week  – Saturday 24th November to Sunday 2nd December

h.Trees – loving our local trees

The gloom of late November is to be brightened in Herefordshire by celebrating trees. Thanks to the work of the many partners in Herefordshire’s recently formed Tree Forum, h.Trees offers events around our county in National Tree Week – from Saturday 24th November to Sunday 2nd December.

Every stage of a tree’s life is covered – events include planting new trees, hands-on opportunities in caring for and managing trees, and use of tree produce, such as apples, and leaf mulch – and our venerable, heritage trees are not forgotten either, with an illustrated talk given by author and photographer, Archie Miles, and a presentation from landscape historian, David Lovelace on new technologies for mapping our places.

And you can learn more about Herefordshire Tree Forum and why trees in towns matter with the Woodland Trust’s Mike Townsend too.

So get your wellies on, walk through the woods, look at the shape of the branches, taste the apples, smell the leaf mulch, touch the bark (or hug a tree!), plant a sapling, and learn more about the trees around us  – h.Trees.

For detailed information about the events, please see the attached programme, or visit www.treecouncil.org.uk/community-action/events-map

For further information, and details of photo opportunities, please contact Cllr Felicity Norman on 01568 780886 or Cllr Liz Chave on 01432 341438

Events are planned in Kington, Leominster, Queenswood Country Park, Hereford and Bodenham. Everyone is welcome to attend – many events are free of charge, most require booking. Local planting of trees is anticipated at Wyevale Wood in Breinton, and at Cantilupe Gardens, the Skate Park, the Livestock Market, and the Cider Museum in Hereford.

The partners in Herefordshire Tree Week include the Woodland Trust, Leominster Civic Society, KLEEN, Herefordshire Council Parks and Countryside Service, Hereford Civic Society, and the Bulmer Foundation. Herefordshire Tree Forum includes many other organisations and individuals, and new members are always welcome. Please see the Tree Forum pages on www.herefordshirenewleaf.org.uk
